CLEAN DEVELOPMENT MECHANISM (CDM)

Preserve the Environment

All of us are known to the fact that changes are inevitable, but none of us ever imagined that the climate on earth would begin to change at such a rapid pace. Present day scenario reveals that human activities like industrialization, transportation, mining, agriculture etc. have lead to the emission of toxic gases in the atmosphere called GREEN HOUSE GASES (GHG’s) which have lead to GREEN HOUSE EFFECT or GLOBAL WARMING, thereby increasing the temperature on earth constantly. The gases responsible for this mainly include:

  • CO2,
  • CH4,
  • N2O,
  • HFC’s and
  • PFC’s, SF6 etc.

In the last 100 years, the average temperature of the air over the Earth’s surface has risen a little less than 1° Celsius (0.74 ± 0.18°C, or 1.3 ± 0.32° Fahrenheit).

Does not seem all that much?

It is responsible for the conspicuous increase in storms, floods and raging forest fires we have seen in the last ten years, though, say scientists. The data shows that an increase in one degree Celsius makes the earth warmer now than it has been for last thousand days. Out of the 20 warmest years on record, 19 have occurred since 1980. The three hottest years observed ever have all occurred in past ten years.

We, SPECTRO Analytical Labs Ltd., at our end, have taken an initiative to contribute to limit these emissions and thus reduce the rate at which the earth is getting warmer, by offering services for the same.

CO2 being the most dangerous of all GHG’s, has been constantly increasing one’s Carbon Footprint. The amount of CO2 emissions by a person/activity is known as its Carbon Footprint.

Impacts of Carbon Footprint by different lifestyles and different activities include:

1. Primary

Resulting from direct activity or consumption.

2. Secondary

Conceived by the production of a product/service at another location.

3. Tertiary

Arising from the production of input materials and services in the production of a Product.

World Average Carbon Footprint = Approximately 3.8
This includes the poor people with practically no footprint and the super rich with very high foot print.

Carbon footprint is a measure of the impacts that our activities have on the environment, and in a particular climate. It relates to the account of the GHG’S produced in our day to day lives through burning of Fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation etc.
