HISTORY OF CDM

Histry of CDM

The figures mentioned here are an indication to the various sources of AIR POLLUTION. The impact that these sources has had on the earth's atmosphere over the years have pushed the world in a direction to adopt measures to apply brakes on factors contributing to Climate Change. As a result of this, UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) was formed in 1992 under the guidance of IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) with an objective to stabilize GHG’s concentration and emissions in the atmosphere at a level that would help prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the Climate System. It included legally non-binding, voluntary pledge that the major industrialized countries would reduce their GHG’s emissions by the year 2000, but realizing that the voluntary targets were not met unless a legally binding agreement was made a necessity. As a result, CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) was introduced as one of the three Mechanisms under the Kyoto Protocol in 1997 in the Conference/Meeting of Parties at Kyoto, Japan.

CDM is a mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol, along with two other mechanisms i.e. Joint Implementation and International Emissions Trading, with an objective to achieve Sustainable Development in Non- Annex 1 countries along with facilitating GHG Mitigation Commitments in Annex 1 countries. CDM plays an important role as it allows the developed countries (Annex 1) to invest in ventures in developing countries (Non-Annex 1) to reduce emissions in developing countries as an alternative to more expensive emission reductions in their own countries.

CDM is supervised by the CDM Executive Board (EB) to qualify projects by making them go through a rigorous procedure designed to ensure real, measurable and verifiable emissions reductions that are additional to what would have occurred in the absence of that project activity.

We expertise in providing CDM services that allow Emission Reduction Projects in developing countries to earn CERTIFIED EMISSIONS CREDITS (CER’s) or CARBON CREDITS each equal to one tonne of Carbon di oxide, VER’s (Voluntary Emission Credits) etc. Our team of experts has more than 30 years experience of serving in this field. CDM assists developing countries in achieving financial help, Technology and Sustainable Development through the CDM along with Non-Annex 1 countries helping Annex 1 countries meet their commitments under the Kyoto Protocol through Greenhouse Mitigation Projects that contribute to Sustainable Development.

CER’s or VER’s can be traded with or sold to industrialized countries in order to meet part of their targets under the Kyoto Protocol. We facilitate identification of suitable buyers of CERs or VERs or CFIs (Carbon Financial Instruments) in the best interest of the project promoter.
